Android L(LOLLIPOP) : a sweet take on ANDROID

After some taste of chocolate flavored wafers , it’s candy time for android users. Yes, Android 5.0 LOLLIPOP is here. Will ship with Nexus 6 and Nexus 9 by default, will be available to MOTO , NEXUS 5 users in few weeks.Others have to wait some more time for an customized update depending on their phones ( HTC , SAMSUNG – since they customise stock android to their brand).

Android L(LOLLIPOP) brings whole lot of new features, the biggest update to Android users both visually and technically from Android 4.4.
Here’s a rundown of features that ANDROID L bring,

Material design look :
Material design adds more vibrancy to the android operating system. It looks entirely different from android 4.4. It’s simple but not flat. The new design adds shadows to entire UI which is just opposite to where the design future is(When others go flat , Google likes to be shadowed).

Adding more to the visual enhancements is the change of screen keys , her home button , multitasking and menu buttons has been changed to geometrical shapes. ( a circle , square , triangle).

Multitasking is more in depth , now individual safari tabs appear on recent apps making browsing much easier .

Super Improved notifications:
With android L , Google had made interacting with notifications much easier. The new ‘heads up notifications’ lets users reply , answer a call etc without leaving the app or dragging the notification bar.

Also the same is extended to lock screen , clicking on a notification on lock screen will take you directly to the app /quick reply. Also not more intervening calls while playing games , it’s just a notification at top , you can answer or decline with a tap.

ART Runtime is REAL :
The experimental feature android introduced in kitkat is out for public through Lollipop, ART . The present android phones run on DALVIK run time , ART is much faster than DALVIK , but takes up more space. Google says ART brings 4x faster performance and responsiveness . Learn more about ART vs DALVIK here

Improved GPU and 64-bit support :
Android L supports 64-bit processors which means better and smooth performance. For now there aren’t much android smart phones with 64bit processors than HTC DESIRE 510, but soon there will be a plenty. Also , improved GPU coding means better gaming performance.

USB Audio support means you can plug USB microphones, speakers, and a myriad of other USB audio devices like amplifiers and mixers into your Android device.

ANDROID AUTO is similar to Apple’s CARPLAY ,by which one can answer calls , text , navigate integrating their phones to ANDROID AUTO enabled cars.

Better battery saving :
With all these new features on Android L , battery has to be improved .Google had made some really nice advancements like battery saving mode like one in GALAXYS5.You can activate manually, or schedule to activate under certain conditions that will disable certain battery-hogging features when your battery gets low.

It extends battery life up to 90 minutes , also displays estimated time left to charge at lock screen while plugged to charge.

Other features are ,
*’OK GOOGLE‘ to wake up your device even when your device is turned off . (Requires hardware compatibility)
*Screen turns ON when you pick up your phone ( HARDWARE based)
* Likely to work with devices having digital signal processing as per GOOGLE , for now on NEXUS 6 and 9.

Adds 15 new languages (Basque, Bengali, Burmese, Chinese (Hong Kong), Galician, Icelandic, Kannada, Kyrgyz, Macedonian, Malayalam, Marathi, Nepali, Sinhala, Tamil, Telugu)

However this is what we know for now. Google will have some hidden surprises when we get to use it in weeks.
Until then , Eat a LOLLIPOP and wait for ANDROID LOLLIPOP.
